The North Face AUS-NZ Athlete | Sport & Exercise Medicine Physician

ANDRIUS RAMONAS

Andrius’ running took off on the track while studying medicine in his hometown of Vilnius in Lithuania. His first foray into trail running was in 2009 where he suffered through a 100 miler in the United Kingdom. The suffering became fertile ground for a flourishing addiction. Since then, he has competed in ultra-distance trail and sky-running races throughout Europe and Australasia.

In 2014 Andrius moved to New Zealand to complete a doctorate in Exercise Physiology. His thesis looked at nutritional manipulation strategies that endurance athletes can employ to improve performance. He is now based in Melbourne where he works as sports medicine doctor helping patients and elite athletes to stay healthy and enjoy active lifestyles.

Balance is a key part of Andrius’ running. Passionate exploration balanced with careful monitoring of physical stress; long training weekends complemented with adequate recovery; and maintaining a deep connection with nature whilst pushing physical limits of the body.

Andrius’ academic background and running experience gives him satisfaction managing his coaching business, RunArt Coaching and the sports nutrition brand, Roam.

What People Are Saying

“I was looking for a little more than a one size fits all training plan. Andrius’s coaching gives me a fully customised plan with specific goals for my upcoming races. His coaching, along with regular contact and guidance, has resulted in a significant improved in my fitness, and in my understanding of the sport of ultra-running and the nuances of race prep and strategy, fuelling and hydration. Not only is he a nice guy, he’s out there competing and succeeding at a very high level, and he readily shares these real-world experiences as part of his coaching. Whether it is bigger picture goals, or small day to day training questions, Andrius’s calm and informed guidance has been of great benefit to my development as a runner.”

“The most important aspect of training for me is efficiency - I need to know that every time I put my shoes on to train there is a point to that session and no time is being wasted - no 'junk' miles. This is exactly what Andrius has focussed on week after week with my program. Since signing up to be coached by Andrius I have beaten all my personal bests from 5k to 100 miles while at the same time reducing the overall hours being logged every week. Better race results and more family time is a huge win win and I'm constantly recommending RUN•ART to other runners looking to step their game up.”

— Andrew, New Zealand

“I have been provided with the most detailed and comprehensive training plan specifically designed for me. Attention to detail is second to none and the feedback I receive after each session is fantastic. I get a quick answer to any questions I have, with Andrius always making changes to my plan based on how my sessions are going. I cannot recommend him enough.”
